Hewitt Man Arrested for Invasive Visual Recording
Incident Overview
A 25-year-old man from Hewitt, Texas, has been arrested following allegations that he recorded his sister-in-law while she was showering, without her consent. Levi Stone O’Byrne is now facing two counts of invasive visual recording as well as charges for tampering with physical evidence.
Details of the Allegations
On February 17, police interacted with the victim, who reported that O’Byrne had been secretly taking nude photographs and videos of her over an unspecified period. According to the affidavit, the woman had observed O’Byrne behaving suspiciously and found him lying on the floor near the bathroom after her showers.
Confrontation and Evidence
On January 8, as the woman was taking a shower, she spotted O’Byrne’s phone positioned in a way that allowed it to record her through the gap at the bottom of the bathroom door. The victim captured a photo of the phone and confronted O’Byrne, who admitted to recording her. He stated that he had begun this behavior only after they moved into the same residence.
Following the confrontation, O’Byrne allegedly took the victim’s phone, deleted her evidence, and requested that she keep the incident private.
Further Investigations
Subsequently, authorities spoke with O’Byrne, who confessed to recording his sister-in-law, as well as another sister-in-law who was living at the same home. This second sister-in-law, upon being interviewed, was unaware that O’Byrne had recorded her without her permission.
Police confiscated O’Byrne’s phone and obtained a search warrant to explore its contents. The investigation uncovered multiple videos and images, suggesting that instances of invasive recordings occurred on various dates, including three videos recorded from just under the bathroom door and another from outside the residence through a window.
Legal Proceedings
Following the investigation, O’Byrne was taken into custody and is currently held at the McLennan County Jail with bail set at $15,000. This case highlights serious issues regarding privacy and consent, raising concerns about invasive recordings within personal spaces.
