Recent Opinions from the Court

This morning, the Supreme Court released two significant opinions that reflect its ongoing influence over federal law.

Delligatti v. United States

In a case concerning organized crime, the Court upheld a ruling that classified an attempted murder-for-hire as a violent crime. This decision reinforces the application of a firearms sentencing enhancement under federal law for such acts.

Thompson v. United States

In a separate ruling, the Court sided with a former alderman from Chicago, determining that federal legislation aimed at prohibiting false statements to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) does not extend to statements that, while misleading, are factually true.
