Overview of the Academy

The Citizens Law Enforcement Academy in Onslow County offers community members a unique opportunity to engage with law enforcement through hands-on experiences. This initiative allows participants to understand the multifaceted roles that deputies undertake in their daily activities.

Program Structure and Activities

The Academy consists of weekly sessions that provide participants with an in-depth view of various law enforcement operations. Attendees explore key areas, including:

• Tours of the detention center and 911 operations
• Simulated responses to domestic calls
• Traffic stop scenarios

This practical experience is designed to enhance community understanding and appreciation for the complexities of law enforcement work.

Goals of the Academy

Since its inception, the Citizens Law Enforcement Academy has successfully conducted 16 sessions, maintaining a consistent goal: to foster community engagement and promote transparency within the police force. Each academy session culminates in engaging demonstrations, including K-9 showcases, which highlight the critical decision-making processes officers face in high-pressure situations.

Graduation Ceremony

The program culminates in a graduation ceremony where participants receive certificates acknowledging their completion of the Academy. This milestone recognizes their commitment to understanding the law enforcement profession and reinforces the importance of community-police collaborations.
